Family-run Vietnamese · Honolulu

Ms. Nguyen — Vietnamese restaurant in Honolulu for pho and banh mi. Fresh today —
and the photo
proves it.

A small counter inside Midtown Eats. Mandy Nguyen runs it. Her family came from Vietnam by boat — that boat is in the logo. She ran her own shop at Kahala Mall from 2005 to 2015, and now she's back. Chicken pho, banh mi, hand-rolled spring rolls. All authentic, never fusion.

Why Ms. Nguyen

Three things you should know.

Fresh banh mi baguette
01.

It's authentic, never fusion.

Mandy keeps everything the real way — the way it's meant to taste. The bread on every banh mi here is delivered fresh every morning.

Bowl of clear chicken pho broth
02.

The broth is built overnight.

Whole chicken, bones, charred ginger and onions, toasted star anise and cardamom. No shortcuts. No powder. When it's gone, it's gone.

Plate of hand-rolled crispy spring rolls
03.

Over 1,000 spring rolls a week.

All hand-rolled. All hand-fried. The filling is chicken, taro, jicama, carrot. Mandy's own recipe.

Meet Mandy

My family came to America by boat.

In the late '70s and early '80s, we left Vietnam the way so many families did — with almost nothing, looking for a chance at something better. That boat is in our logo. It's how we got here, and it's who we are. We brought our culture with us — our food most of all.

I ran my shop at Kahala Mall from 2005 to 2015. Then I closed, and ten years went by — but people never forgot. They still stop me and ask, "Wait, are you familiar? Oh — from Kahala Mall." That's why I came back.

Everything I make, I keep authentic. Not fusion — authentic. The chicken pho is what sets me apart. Everyone in town does beef broth. I do chicken — lighter, smoother, my own recipe.

"Good ingredients, cooked well, the real way. I'm still here, every day. Come find me."

Excellent banh mi rolls! Decent pricing, great size. The bread is crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Perfect because it doesn't cut the roof of your mouth. I see everyone get pho, so we'll have to try that next time.

Ordered the chicken pho. For the price, it's okay ($18). Broth is clean, not as flavorful as I expected. I still need to try the other dishes.

Response from the owner

Thanks for the honest review. Our broth is intentionally lighter than typical beef pho. Next time try the Rare Steak Pho — the broth on that one is richer. Would love to make it right.

The noodle was silky soft and texture was chewy. The broth was very clean and full of flavor. Perfect for the day after a tough night.
